The 9th Annual Christmas Walk/Wreath Celebration was cancelled because not enough houses were secured to hold the walk. The Wreath Contest was still being held.
The 37th Annual Kruse Labor Day Auction had over 5,000 cars on display for buyers to bid on.
Janet Tallen and her Modern Shetland pony “Michigan’s Maverick” won the 2007 World Champion Classic Shetland Gelding Title at the American Shetland/American Miniature Horse Registry World Show in Columbus, Ohio. They also won that title in 2004.
Gary and Connie Gordon celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Parkview Medical Group announced that Dr. Janet S. Prendergast, D.O. had joined Whitley Medical Associates.
Tara Dice was awarded the Champion Shropshire Market Lamb at the Indiana State Fair. She also won Reserve Champion Showman at the Fair.
The crowd attending the Annual Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival far exceeded the 150,000 anticipated.
Churubusco Police investigated a break-in at Paint-It, Inc. on South Main Street. Access was through the rear of the building where the thief or thieves made off with paint equipment and supplies.
Steven and Tonya Jacobs announced the birth of their twin sons, Nicolas and Nathan.
Matthew and Katrina Pequignot announced the birth of their son, Conner Lee.
25 Years Ago
Two new businesses opened their doors in Churubusco, Precision Sharpening, owned by Dan Millikan and Teagues Welding Service, owned by Ben Teague and his two sons, Doug and Kevin.
The current officers of the Smith-Green Committee for Citizens in Education were re-elected. Elected for a second term were Carl Maucione, president, Sue Lewis, vice-president, Mary Tomlins Rynearson, secretary and Neil Hanni, treasurer.
A chapter of the National Sewing Guild was established in Fort Wayne. A neighborhood group was organized in Churubusco at the Howell House. The N.S.G. was an organization that promoted home sewing through seminars and classes. The neighborhood group was the working unit of the guild; sharing and support helped the individual sewer gain new insight and enthusiasm.
Cary and Amy Blake announced the birth of their son, Jimmy Kipp.
50 Years Ago
The new school year opened with a record enrollment, approaching the 1,000 mark and the prospect of putting four new class rooms into use.
Guy Jagger was a winner in the state contest of the Indiana Tractor Pull Association held in Kirklin, Indiana. He took first place in the 7,400 pound class.
Three women who had escaped from the Women’s State Prison in Indianapolis were captured near Fortmeyer’s Corners.
The General Telephone Company said the coming of All Number Calling (ANC) to the Fort Wayne area did not mean patrons may dial their own long-distance calls.
The largest blood donation in Whitley County took place when the blood mobile visited Columbia City. The quota set was 125 pints, but with a special effort to increase donations, a total of 160 pints was collected.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Adams announced the birth of their son, Kenneth David.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Myers announced the birth of their daughter, Lisa Kay.
