Alisha Farner led the team with nine kills while Alyssa Anderson helped with six and Danielle Pippenger had five. Lacey Pulley had 20 assists in the Lady Eagles’ victory while Olivia Huelsenbeck served up eight aces on the night. Chandler Blake led Churubusco with 16 digs and Anderson led with two blocks.
The Lady Eagles traveled to Fort Wayne Saturday morning to compete in the South Side Invitational. The Lady Eagles won their first three games and lost in the last game to give them runner-up in the invitational.
Churubusco first faced the host, South Side Archers and won 27-25 and 25-13. Leading the Lady Eagles in kills was Pippenger with eight and Anderson with seven. Both Pippenger and Anderson also had one block apiece. Pulley led Churubusco with 16 assists and five serving aces. Also helping out the Lady Eagles with their victory was Emma Frericks with 14 digs.
In the second game of the day, Churubusco faced the New Haven Bulldogs. The Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Bulldogs 25-13 and 25-22. Pippenger again led Churubusco with seven kills and Farner had six. Anderson led the team with three solo blocks and Pulley led the Lady Eagles with 17 assists. Huelsenbeck and Gabby Jones led the team with two serving aces while Frericks led the team with 13 digs.
In the third game, the Lady Eagles faced the Lady Tigers of Peru. Churubusco lost the first set 14-25 but came back fighting to win the next two 25-22 and 15-8.
Anderson led the team with six kills while Farner and Pippenger each had five. Pulley also had 17 assists and four serving aces for the Lady Eagles. Blake led the Lady Eagles with 21 digs in the win.
The Lady Eagles then faced the Norwell Knights and came up short 25-14 and 25-14. In the loss, Pippenger had eight kills while Farner had seven. Pippenger also had one solo block. Pulley had 15 assists for the Lady Eagles while Frericks had 14 digs.
The Lady Eagles are back in action today at Fort Wayne Canterbury and Thursday at West Noble.
(Lacey Pulley (setter) and Chandler Blake (libero) were named to the All-Tournament team in Saturday’s South Side Invitational. Pulley had nine aces, 21 digs and 83 assists on the day while Blake added 49 digs.)
