“We struggled defensively in this game,” said Head Coach Jamie Perlich. “We were slow in our reaction time and didn’t care for the ball. We will have to stop people if we are going to win any games this year.”
Montana Martin led Churubusco with seven points. Also scoring for the Lady Eagles were; Alyssa Anderson with four, Alisha Farner with three, Savannah Labenz with two, Shelby Brockman with two, and Cassidy Perlich with one.
Farner and Brockman each had one offensive rebound and five defensive rebounds, while Martin had one block. The Lady Eagles only shot 29 percent from the free-throw line. Anderson led Churubusco on the line going two for four.
On Saturday night, the Lady Eagles traveled across the county to face off against the Whitko Wildcats. Churubusco fought hard, but lost 28-24. “We made big improvements from the Garrett game,” stated Coach Perlich. “We gave ourselves a chance to win by playing good defense and rebounding well. Turnovers were cut in half compared to the Garrett game. That helped us a ton as well.”
The Lady Eagles were again led by Martin. Martin had 10 points. Also scoring for Churubusco were: Labenz and Farner with four, Anderson with three, and Jacey Keener with two. Labenz had two assists, while Martin had five steals.
The Lady Eagles hit the boards hard against the Lady Wildcats. Martin had seven defensive boards, Anderson had three offensive and four defensive, Brockman had one offensive and five defensive, and Farner had two offensive and four defensive.
The Lady Eagles improved on the free-throw line by shooting 39 percent. Martin was four of nine, Farner was three of six, and Anderson was one of one.
“I’m proud of the effort that was put forth by all the girls tonight,” said Coach Perlich.
The Lady Eagles are back in action on Friday at home against Fairfield and Tuesday at home against Woodlan.
