“We felt like in the first game we allowed them to score too many points,” said Coach Trinda Goings. “The second game, they were extremely focused and we dominated serving, ball control, executing our hitting, and our sets were better in the second set.”
In the win, Elaine Horn had 10 kills and Danielle Pippenger had nine. Lacey Pulley had 21 assists while Chandler Blake had four aces and 12 digs. Alyssa Anderson led the team with four total blocks, one assisted and three solo.
“In the third game, we kind of gave them some points but it’s hard to stay focused at that level,” stated Coach Goings. “They did stay focused and then that allowed some of our younger kids to get in and feel that success too.”
With the win on Thursday, it moved the Lady Eagles onto Westview on Saturday. On Saturday, Churubusco lost to Prairie Heights, Westview, Central Noble, and Eastside all in two matches. Leading the team on Saturday in aces was Caylee Knafel and Horn with four and Pulley with three. Assists were lead by Shyenne Greve with 21 and Pulley with 16. Alisha Farner, Horn, Olivia Huelsenbeck, and Cortney Luttman all had one block for the Lady Eagles. Pulley had 16 digs while Blake and Gabby Jones each had 14. Huelsenbeck had eight kills and Knafel had seven.
