The Lady Eagles took control at the very beginning with a 14-6 Churubusco lead at the end of the first quarter and a 20-11 lead into halftime.
“I felt we controlled the rebounds the first half and then let up,” explained Coach Perlich.
The Lady Eagles did let up in the second half. Lakeland Christian was able to outscore Churubusco 8-6 in the third quarter and 5-3 in the fourth quarter. But it wasn’t enough to beat the Lady Eagles. Churubusco won 29-24.
“We need to realize we have to play hard for 32 minutes,” stated Coach Perlich. “We are still growing as a team. We have a lot of young girls still learning the system.”
Shelby Brockman led the Lady Eagles with seven points, six offensive rebounds, and three defensive rebounds. Also helping the Lady Eagles with their victory was; Savannah Labenz with six points, one assist, four defensive rebounds, and three steals. The Lady Eagles hosted the Lady Falcons from Fairfield Friday night and lost 49-27.
The Lady Eagles were down 10-7 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Lady Falcons really took it to Churubusco and outscored the Lady Eagles 18-6 making it 28-13 at halftime.
“We shot the ball better than we have this season but too many opportunities were lost from turnovers,” stated Coach Perlich. “We need to get better at playing with intensity on the defensive end the entire game, not here and there.”
In the third quarter, Churubusco was again outscored 12-5. But in the fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles were able to stay with the Lady Falcons and both teams scored nine points apiece.
