Busco went to business right away moving the ball down the field against the Central Noble defense. After a nine play opening drive Jason Nicodemus crossed the goal line from nine yards out for the Eagles. Parker Conrad made the extra point for a 7-0 early lead for the Eagles. Churubusco recovered a Cougar fumble and Cory Miller found the end zone from six yards out for a 14-0 lead with 5:45 remaining in the first quarter. The Eagles again struck quick following a fumble recovery as Nicodemus scampered in from six yards out. One minute later Miller intercepted a Cougar pass and returned it 65 yards for another Eagle score for a 27-0 lead. Braydon Shively set up the next score with a 45 yard run to the 25 yard line. Nicodemus again found the end zone before quarter’s end, this time from 25 yards out giving the Eagles a 34-0 advantage after one quarter of play.
Central Noble stunned the Eagle defense as Joel Cochard scored on a 64 yard pass from Alex Vice on the first play of the second quarter. The Eagles scored on their second play as Kane Johnson rambled 46 yards for the score and a 41-6 lead. The Eagle defense held strong as they pushed the Cougars back to a fourth and thirty-four and with a punting miscue the Eagles took over at the 15 yard line. Shively crossed the goal line from eight yards out for a 48-6 Eagle lead.
Devin Peters scored the Eagles’ last touchdown in the half on a four yard run giving Churubusco a 55-6 lead going into the locker rooms.
The Eagles recovered a fumble on the Cougars’ first series of the second half and Nicodemus scored from 17 yards on the second play of the Eagle drive. That was the final score of the evening as Busco led 61-6 three minutes into the third period. The Eagles got a good look at a lot of players getting some first time varsity experience, while others had some extended playing time.
Churubusco will host Prairie Heights this Friday night, game time is 7 p.m. There will be a new twist to the night as the cross-country team will run at halftime. So come out and cheer your Eagles on to victory in both football and cross-country.
