No one witnessed the accident, but alcohol may have been a factor, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The ATV was reportedly northbound on Johnson Road when it went left off the pavement near a curve, traveled a short distance along an embankment, then flipped over. Both occupants were thrown to the ground by the impact.
Officials say neither rider was wearing a helmet when the crash happened. Deck was scheduled to be autopsied Friday to confirm the cause of death.
In addition to Conservation Officers, and the Coroner’s Office, the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department and EMS, Union Township Fire Department, and Indiana State Police responded to the scene.
