Wrestling season comes to a close

FORT WAYNE — The wrestling season came to a close for Churubusco’s two grapplers left in the state tournament.

Joe Leazier and J.T. Kilgore were defeated in the semistate at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum Saturday.

Kilgore won his first-round match at 220 pounds to advance to the quarterfinals, but was pinned by Lakeland’s Austin Evans in the third period. The duo had met twice during the regular season, with a 1-1 record. Kilgore finishes the season with a 35-4 record.

Leazier dropped his match in the opening round of the 138-pound weight class. He was pinned by Fairfield’s Dillon Yoder. Leazier finishes the season with a 32-5 record.

Hunter Reed, of Columbia City, is advancing to this Saturday’s state finals.
