The Eagles jumped out to a 15-0 lead. An 8-3 decision by Jordan Nicodemus at 160 lbs. got things going for Churubusco followed by forfeits to Jordan Hamilton (171) and Ron Adams (189). Braxton Siddons lost a close match, wrestling at 215 lbs. and Jay Linscomb was pinned in the 285 lbs. At 103 the Eagles forfeited to the Vikings. The lightweights belonged to Huntington North as they collected pins in 112 and 119 weight class continuing through 125 and 130 where they took the matches by decisions. Zack Armstead, the Eagles’ 135 lb. wrestler, gained a victory by decision 7-3 and A.J. Herron won his match at 140 lbs. by a 5-0 score. Huntington North took the last two weight classes, by a pin at 145 lbs. and a decision at 152 lbs.
“This year it seems like we wrestle just as good as our opponents. We lost a couple that we should have won and when that happens it just seems to get away from you like it did tonight,” commented Coach Sam Reisen. “We lose the close ones and we give up pins and that’s just the recipe for disaster. Hopefully it will serve as a wake up call for us as we enter the last couple tournaments. Otherwise it’s going to be a short postseason for our program.”
Churubusco will be back in action Saturday at the Woodlan Invitational with matches starting at 9 a.m.
