The William Green family of Churubusco held their annual pie making day on Saturday, September 18, at their home. Their children and grandchildren all participate in the event of over a decade. The husbands and grandchildren peel, core and slice the apples. The ladies and grandchildren reslice, remove leftover peelings, measure filling, roll out dough, seal and flute the edges. This year six-year-old Alex Green was the master fluter. The pies are then placed in Ziploc bags and stuffed in the freezer. Each year 10 blueberry pies are also made. Total pies made vary from 65 to 85. This year 80 pies were made, less than last year’s total of 85. After the cleanup is finished the family is rewarded with a bonfire to roast hot dogs and make s’mores, and games are played in the yard. It is a full fun day for everyone.
