Why do we depend on OPEC for our oil?

Hidden beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped reserve in the world. More than two trillion  barrels. Here are the official estimates; eight times more than Saudi Arabia, 18 times more than Iraq, 21 times more than  Kuwait, 22 times more than Iran and 500 times more than Yemen. And if this doesn’t get you wondering why, then read on. In 2008, the U.S. Geological Service issued a revised report on how much untapped crude oil was in 2/3 of North Dakota, western South Dakota and eastern Montana. Better known as the Bakken area. This is one of the largest domestic oil discoveries since Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay area. This find has the potential of eliminating all American dependence on foreign oil. The Energy Information Administration estimates it at 503 billion barrels. And because this is light, sweet oil, the cost of producing  and refining is much less than the cost of heavy crude oil we are importing from OPEC countries. And look at the cost you are paying for natural gas to heat your home this winter because of the so-called shortages. We find also in this report that in the Bakken area is 3.7 trillion cubic feet of discovered natural gas not being produced. Please check for yourself at www.usgs.gov/newsroom.

Then why are we continuing to depend on the OPEC countries for our oil. Especially when we find that through the Weki Leaks that Saudi Arabia donors are the chief financiers of terror groups, including Al-Qaida that is out to destroy us. The reason is the radical environmentalists have had the ear of a liberal Congress and have blocked all efforts to help America become independent of foreign oil. It has been proven that this oil can be extracted environmentally safe. Which is better, to have drilling for oil 1000 feet below the surface of the ocean or on land.

Our country will only grow and prosper with low cost energy. Until a better source and distribution is in place, we need to be drilling and producing our own oil and natural gas. It’s time to start yelling and contact your Congress representative and demand that they quit listening to the voice of a small minority and start listening to the American People.
