Whitley County Toys For Tots 2009 Year In Review

This year we tried something new, and asked several local businesses to do Donation Trains at their stores.  Some were not willing, could not get corporate approval, or had little luck.  However, one business stepped up to the challenge.  The staff at Bob Evans asked their customers to donate a dollar to Toys For Tots, and the customer could then put their name on a donation train, and hang it up in the restaurant. The staff members at Bob Evans were driven and excited to help, and raised over $312.00 for Whitley Co. Toys For Tots!  Another corporation that deserves a big thank you is Steel Dynamics.  Their employees collected over 100 toys, and Steel Dynamics donated 31 Build-A-Bears, several music CD’s, and collected $1,200.00 through an employee raffle.

St. Paul Youth Choir made and sold music CD’s which raised over $827.00 for Toys For Tots!  The Smartie Car Club of Indiana had a parade at Wonderland of Lights and brought carloads of toys.  Other area businesses and organizations that we would like to extend our thanks to are the Rotary Club, Advanced Assembly, REMC, Reelcraft,  plus many more for their generous support.  We had many collection sites at Whitley County locations, such as B.E. Computers; Bob Evans; Carousel Hair Care; CC Deli; Dance Til You Drop; Dollar General in CC, South Whitley, and Churubusco; Eagle Quest Church; 80/20; SDI; Family Video; Fiesta Hair Salon; First Church of God; 1st Source Bank; IMA; Kroger; Lake City Bank; Midwest America Federal Credit Union; Northridge Apartments; Oak Grove United Methodist Church; Parkview Whitley Hospital; Peabody Library; Peebles; Post & Mail; Pyrotec; Reelcraft; ReMax; Richard’s Restaurant; Star Financial Bank; Verizon; VFW; Walgreen; Walmart; Whitley Chiropractic; YMCA; Heyerly’s Meat Market; Churubusco Middle School; Churubusco Public Library; Egolf’s IGA; ‘Busco Fort Financial, and the Churubusco Methodist Church.

Without these locations, collection boxes could not be filled by the many generous residents of Whitley County, who pulled together once again to help children in need.  We would also like to thank Santa and Sheriff Mark Hodges for helping us to fill the cruiser again this year!  Once again, the community came out in the cold to help others.  A special thanks goes out to the Marine Leatherneck Club for their muscle getting us set up and torn down, and to the many volunteers who gave up mornings, evenings, or weekends to help us!  With the support and contributions from the community, we were able to help 266 families provide a Christmas with toys for 677 children in Whitley County.
