Whitley County Chapter AARP met December 1st at the Woodlands. President Pat Loe opened the meeting with Marge Kite leading in the pledge to the American Flag and a prayer by Phyllis Swick.
Parkview Whitley Hospital is in need of volunteers to drive for its “Meals on Wheels” program in Columbia City. Volunteers load the meals, which are stored in coolers, into their vehicles and deliver them to residents in Columbia City and no further than one mile outside of the city limits. Following deliveries, the coolers are returned to the hospital.
Pro Fed Credit Union is once again sponsoring The Lighthouse, Whitley County’s Homeless Shelter, during this Christmas season.
COLUMBIA CITY – STAR is proud to sponsor the Fort Wayne Philharmonic’s Holiday Pops Concert in Whitley County. The concert will be held Tuesday, December 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the First Church of God, 1200 West DePoy Drive in Columbia City.
The Whitley County Salvation Army and Eagle Quest Church have teamed up to help “Meet the Need” for Whitley County residents this holiday season. The two organizations are working together to provide much needed food to qualifying families through “Angel Food Ministries.”

High School Sophomores representing Churubusco, Columbia City and Whitko High Schools met in November for the first ever Whitley County Youth Leadership Class. The program is designed to teach and strengthen servant leadership skills to students who have been selected by their guidance counselors and principals to participate. Students are empowered and encouraged to become leaders in their own schools and communities.
HUNTINGTON – Huntington University’s EXCEL Adult Degree Programs will hold an informational meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, at the Columbia City site on 220 Frontage Road.
Parkview Whitley Hospital invites the Whitley County community to share its warmth this winter with the children of the county by participating in the hospital’s first “Mittens for Munchkins” Christmas program.
Christmas is just around the corner. In the big beautiful building in the middle of the square in Columbia City, folks from near and far, young and old, friends and neighbors, greet each other with smiles and anticipation as they admire festive decorations and enjoy refreshments. Wide-eyed children especially are delighted to choose from thousands of cookies lining the tables as smiling servers hand them a cup of hot cocoa. Children listen to Christmas stories quietly as they eat their homemade cookies.
