STATEHOUSE—Leaders from Whitley County attended an awards program with Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman to receive $46,763 in grant money for green initiatives. The award is part of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants (EECBG) program. The EECGB is funded through the U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE) and administered in Indiana by the Indiana Office of Energy Development.

WOLF LAKE – Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College, Wolf Lake, will offer spring hikes, Tuesday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m., April 6 through May 4.
A poster contest is planned as part of the “Tax Day TEA Party” on Thursday, April 15, in Columbia City. Entrants who display their posters during the event will be judged on the basis of creativity and how they relate to either the original Boston Tea Party or the concept of taxation without representation.

A Whitley County Police officer was critically injured when his squad car crashed while he was responding to a call Saturday night. Sheriff’s Department Reserve Officer Adam D. Schrader, 30, was in critical condition after the crash, which happened at about 3 a.m.
