Violet Hawk

Mrs. Hawk was born on October 30, 1916 in Merriam, a daughter of Edward and Erma Letitia (Keister) Zumbrun, and graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1936. As a young woman she worked at Blue Bell in Columbia City for six years until 1942.

On June 17, 1939 she was married near Merriam to J. C. Hawk, and lived all of her adult life in the Merriam-area until moving to Fort Wayne in 2001 to be near her daughter.

She was a homemaker, and a member of the Blue River Church of the Brethren, Whitley County.

Mr. Hawk preceded her in death on April 17, 2001.

The surviving relatives include her daughter, Kay Ann Hawk of Fort Wayne; a sister, Zora Tanner of Angola; a grandson, Nathaniel Lee Hawk of Jacksonville, Fla; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Renee Hawk.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Terry L. Hawk on July 20, 1976; and by two brothers, Delbert Zumbrun and Oras Zumbrun.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the Blue River Church of the Brethren, 3040 East 700 North, Whitley County. Pastors Craig Alan Myers and Keith Moore will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m., or at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
