Managing Hardwood Tree Plantations
The location of this presentation is the Purdue Research Foundations Harrold Property near Etna, IN.
8:30-9 a.m. Registration.
From 9-9:45 a.m. – Why and When to Manage Your Plantation (Lenny Farley- Purdue University Extension Forester).
9:45-10:30 a.m. – Pruning Demo and Discussion (Lenny Farley and Brian Beheler- Purdue University).
From 10:30-10:45 a.m. – Break.
10:45-11:45 a.m. – Thinning and Crop Tree Release (Bruce Wakeland, Consulting Forester & Don Carlson, Purdue FNR Dept. Forester).
11:45-12 noon – Classified Forest Program and available funding opportunities for management (IDNR District Forester)
Noon-1 p.m. – Lunch provided (Subway sandwiches and drink).
1:00-2:00 p.m. – Hands-on training with a forester (Breaking into smaller groups, take an hour of your time and walk with a forester discussing various aspects of plantation and forest management).
Registration required along with a $10 registration fee.

Directions are as follows: Purdue Harrold Property:
From Ligonier take SR 5 to 750 N in Whitley County. Turn east onto 750 N for three miles to property.
From Columbia City, easy route from south: Take US 30 to CR 550 W. Go north six miles to 750 N. Turn right for 1/2 mile to property.
From Wolf Lake take SR 109 south to CR 600. South (CR 700 North in Whitley County). Turn west onto CR 700 N. Turn north on CR 350 W. Turn west on 750 N for 1.5 miles to property.
