The duo suffered their first loss this past Saturday at LaPorte. Playing against the LaPorte doubles team the Eagles started off a little slow. The nerves showed as they struggled early on.
Mey and McDowell dropped the first set 6-3 and then the second set 6-4.
“I’m proud of Ryan and myself for making it this far, something no one has ever done in our program,” explained McDowell. “Today we really didn’t play our best, we weren’t consistent enough and committed too many errors.”
It was a season that put Churubusco tennis on the map. Never before had anyone finished the season undefeated.
“It was a privilege to coach Alex and Ryan, you can’t replace them,” stated Coach Jagger. “Next year is going to be a rebuilding year and I would love to see their presence out on our courts next season helping the younger players to better themselves.”
