“Tag Team” rallying Busco

three with one double and two RBI’s. Savannah Labenz went two for three with one RBI. Alexis Bankson went two for four with one RBI and Burkhart went two for four with two RBI’s. Herendeen got the start on the mound for the Lady Eagles. She went four innings with one hit, two runs (one earned), and one walk. Burkhart pitched the final inning for the Lady Eagles recording two strikeouts.

On Thursday, the Lady Eagles hosted the Hamilton Marines. The Lady Eagles came up with a big 10-0 win in five innings. Nicole Sells lead the Eagles’ offense with a home run and three RBI’s. Also helping was Labenz with a double. Kasey Gibson went three for three. Burkhart went two for three with two RBI’s. Amber went one for two with one RBI and Ashlie Shelton went one for three. Burkhart got the start on the mound after some time off for an appendectomy. Burkhart went four innings with one hit, two walks, and six strikeouts. Then Herendeen took over going one inning giving up one hit and getting one strike out.

On Friday, Fort Wayne Northrop came to Busco to face the Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles came up with a 5-4 win over Northrop. Shelton led the offense for the Lady Eagles going two for four with one double and one RBI. Gibson went two for four with one triple. On the mound, Burkhart went four innings with two hits, three runs, no earned runs, two walks, and four strikeouts. Herendeen finished the game for the Lady Eagles. Herendeen went three innings with one hit, one run (earned), one walk, and one strikeout.

Fort Wayne Concordia hosted the Lady Eagles for a double-header Saturday. The Lady Eagles lost the first game 7-8 but won the second game 12-9. Gibson went five for five with three runs scored. Amber had one double and two RBI’s. Shelton went two for five with two RBI’s and Burkhart went two for five with three RBI’s. Herendeen went five innings with eight hits, four runs (two earned), two walks, and two strikeouts. Burkhart relieved going two and two-third innings with six hits, four runs (two earned), and one walk. In the second game, Jessica Tartaglia went three for five with one double and one RBI. Sells went one for three with one home run, and two RBI’s. Burkhart went two for four with one double, and one RBI. Amber went two for five. Gibson went two for four, and Chandler Blake went two for three. On the mound, Burkhart went three innings with five hits, six runs (three earned), no walks, and four strikeouts. Herendeen went four innings with seven hits, three runs (all earned), and four walks.

The Lady Eagles traveled to Leo on Monday, to face the Lady Lions. Leo got the best of Churubusco as they defeated the Lady Eagles 4-3 in ten innings. Amber went one for five. Sells went two for five. Burkhart had a home run and two RBI’s.

For the week, the Lady Eagles went five and two with a four win winning streak. Amber had six RBI’s, three doubles, and four walks. Burkhart had one home run, two doubles, and 12 RBI’s. Gibson had 11 hits and 11 runs scored. Sells had two home runs, five RBI’s, and four walks.

Burkhart had three wins including a one hitter against Hamilton. Herendeen had two wins including a one hitter against Fremont. The two great performances from the Eagle pitchers has helped them understand how to share the mound and work together. Herendeen has done an absolutely tremendous job stepping in during the absense of Burkhart the first month of the season. Now with Burkhart back Herendeen doesn’t have as much pressure and they have been doing tremendous together. They are a true tag team. When one of them gets tired, they tag in the other one to take care of the rest of the work.

The Lady Eagles are back in action Thursday at Westview, Monday at home against Heritage, and Tuesday at home against Angola.
