Churubusco will have two athletes represent the school in the State track and field meet, senior Heather Monk and junior Austin McClure. Monk will compete in the shot put and discus on Friday, June 1 and McClure will be in the shot put on Saturday, June 2 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex, Indiana University, Bloomington.
The girls’ track Regional was held at Northrop High School in Fort Wayne on Tuesday. Payton Summers, McKenzie Hogeston, Katie Monk, and Heather Monk all competed in the Regional.
Heather, the shot put and discus Sectional Champion, finished second in the shot put with a throw of 41’ 2-3/4”. She also finished third in the discus with a throw of 128’ 11”. Katie Monk also qualified for Regional in the shot put and discus. Katie finished 14th in the shot put with a throw of 33’ 11” and finished eighth in the discus with a throw of 120’ 7”.
In the prelims of the 100 meter dash, Payton Summers qualified with a time of 12.82. Then in the finals, Summers finished seventh with a time of 13.13.
McKenzie Hogeston competed in the girls’ pole vault and ended her season.
In the boys’ track Regional held at Wayne High School on Thursday. Alex Zolman, Gunnar Barnhart, and Austin McClure all competed in the Regional.
Austin McClure competed in the discus and shot put. McClure finished fifth with a throw of 158’ 9” in the discus and threw for 52’ 4” in the shot put to finished second. Gunnar Barnhart competed in the discus throw and finished 10th with a throw of 145’ 8”. In the 400 meter dash Alex Zolman finished fifth with a time of 50.51.
Monk will be in the second flight of the discus beginning at 3:00 p.m. and will compete in the third flight of the shot put slated to start at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
