| Eagle baseball defeats Eastside in first-round Sectional play; falls to South Adams 6-5 |

The Churubusco Eagles baseball team opened up sectional play Wednesday night at Indiana Tech against the Eastside Blazers. The Eagles were victorious over the Blazers 4-3.
Eastside jumped to a 3-1 lead at the end of the first inning. Neither team scored until the Eagles got two runs across in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game three all. Both teams were scoreless in the seventh to put the game into extra innings. Churubusco was again to keep the Blazers scoreless in the top of the eighth. The Eagles were able to get that one needed run across home plate in the bottom of the eighth to win the game 4-3 and advance to Sectional semifinals.
The Eagles were lead offensively by Alan Meeks, Austin Goepfrich, and Kody Poyser.
Meeks went two for three with one RBI. Goepfrich went two for four with two RBI’s and Poyser went two for five with one RBI and one double.
Getting the win on the mound for Churubusco was Hayden Kilgore. He went all eight innings giving up eight hits, and three walks while having no earned runs and striking out seven.
On Monday, the Eagles traveled back to Indiana Tech to face off against South Adams. After a hard fought battle, South Adams won the game 6-5.
Both teams were scoreless in the first inning. In the second, South Adams was able to get one run across and the Eagles matched their run in the top of the third. South Adams was able to go up to a 4-1 in the fifth scoring two in the fourth inning and one in the fifth. Both teams were scoreless in the sixth. In the top of the seventh inning the Churubusco Eagles exploded for four runs making it 5-4 Eagles with South Adams up to bat in the bottom of the seventh. South Adams scored one with no outs tying the game five all. South Adams managed to get one more run across home plate to end the game 6-5 and the Churubusco Eagles season.
Offensively, Goepfrich, Poyser, Adam Boggess, Logan Harris and Brent Simmons led the Eagles. Goepfrich went two for two with a single and a triple. Poyser went two for four with one single, one double, and three RBI’s. Boggess went one for three with one RBI. Harris went one for three with one double and Simmons went one for four with a double.
On the mound for the Eagles was Hayden Kilgore. He went the distance giving up eight hits and five earned runs while striking out one.
