It was a night where the Eagles were defending their reign as Conference Champions. But Fairfield was too strong as they took back the crown with a 146 point performance. Churubusco placed second with 112.5 points followed by Westview with 85,West Noble 78 and Lakeland with 65.5 to round out the top five.
Churubusco senior Brian Trump left nothing in reserve as he gave all he had to win the 100 meter dash (11.80), 200 meter dash (22.96). He also anchored the 4 x 100 relay team of Kyle Mathewson, Kyle Monk and Jordan Hamilton that set a school record with a time of 44.09 seconds. Mathewson recorded a second in the 200 meter dash (23.24), long jump (20’ 6.5”) and third in the 100 meter dash (11.98).
Monk placed second (41.33) in the 300 hurdles and Josh LeFever was third (41.67). Monk also placed fourth (5’ 10”) in the high jump and Jes Percy’s jump of 5’ 8” was good for eighth place. LeFever also placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (16.30) and sixth in the discus (123’ 6”). Hamilton placed fifth in the 110 hurdles (16.46) and Alex Zolman finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 20’ 0”. In the shot put Spencer Conrad placed fourth with a throw of 46’ 4.25” and Skylar Greve was seventh with 45’ 3.5”. Pole vaulters Zach Adams and Zack Armstead placed fifth and sixth with jumps of 11’ 6”. Jeremy Forker ran an outstanding race and finished sixth with a time of 52.94 seconds.
Westview took the girls Championship with a 137 to 132 win over Fairfield. Angola placed third with 76 points, Central Noble was fourth with 68 and West Noble finished fifth with 64 points. The Lady Eagles place sixth with 43.5 points.
Heather Monk collected the only first place finish for Churubusco with her throw of 114’ 2” in the discus. She finished second in the shot put with a throw of 37’ 2.5”. Erica Lehner was sixth in the shot with 30’ 7.5”. Peyton Summers finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.34 seconds. She also finished eighth in the 200 meter dash (29.06) and in the long jump 14’ 1”. Alex Eyer placed sixth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:44.03 and eighth with a time of 5:46.7 in the 1600 meter run. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Haleigh Gross, Summers, Lehner and Monk finished fifth with a time of 54.02. by Don Hiatt

Jordan Hamilton, son of Sandy and Rick Hamilton of Churubusco, signed a letter of intent to play football at Trine University next season. Standing is Lee Etzler, CHS Football Coach and Athletic Director.
