Special speaker coming to Rotary

Dr. Charles Bragg recently visited Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier with Martha Barnhart of Churubusco, at her Indiana ancestor’s grave. Barnhart’s ancestor Andrew Bronson Upson served in the War of 1812 and was the son of Ezekiel Upson, who wintered with George Washington at Valley Forge. Andrew Upson and his family came to Indiana and settled near Cromwell in 1836.

CHURUBUSCO — A special guest will be speaking at next week’s Churubusco Rotary Club meeting.

Dr. Charles Bragg, of Fishers, will be at Tuesday’s meeting, held at noon in the basement of St. John Bosco Catholic Church.

Bragg will be speaking about Indiana’s ancestors. He is the current president of the society of Indiana Pioneers and a longtime Rotarian, where he has served as past district governor, among several other accomplishments, primarily in service organizations relating to American History.

Bragg holds a Ph.D. from Purdue and has served as school superintendent at Warsaw and Winchester.

Following his retirement, Bragg has used his knowledge and enthusiasm for American history to promote excitement for the topic with students, as well as adults, dressing up for reenactments and presentations, while encouraging all to learn about the contributions of their own ancestors.
