CHURUBUSCO – Churubusco’s softball team had a difficult week last week. The Lady Eagles suffered losses to Manchester, Garrett and Eastside.
The Lady Eagleslost 12-0 to Manchester Wednesday evening.
Senior Carlee Koldyke led the team on the mound.
The Lady Squires got to work right away, scoring two runs in the first inning.
Churubusco’s Calla Boruff hit a single and Mallory Pearson hit a double and stole to third, but the Eagles could not find a way to put a run on the scoreboard.
Manchester’s only scoreless inning came in the third. Koldyke was still on the mound at that time.
Churubusco left another player stranded on third in the sixth inning.
The Lady Eagles lost 12-3 to Garrett last Thursday.
Churubusco took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, but Garrett retaliated with a vengeance, scoring two runs in the third, five in the fourth and five more in the sixth inning.
Breanna Baughman led the team at the plate with two hits.
Paige Stauffer recorded two RBIs, and Brooke Nondorf had the other RBI.
Other Churubusco players recording hits were: Kurstin Clark, Boruff, Abigail Erwin and Pearson. Pearson also had the team’s lone stolen base.
Koldyke pitched five innings for Churubusco, recording a strikeout and giving up 10 hits. Madison Simmons pitched two innings, recording one strikeout and giving up five hits.
The Lady Eagles ended the week with an upswing in its offense, recording six runs in their 12-6 loss to Eastside.
Eastside came out with its bats swinging, scoring five runs in the second, two more in the third and four runs in the fifth inning. Churubusco didn’t score until the bottom of the fifth with three runs, and three more runs in the sixth.
Boruff, Simmons, Erwin and Pearson recorded two hits apiece for the Lady Eagles. Simmons led the team with two RBIs.
Koldyke pitched all seven innings, recording one strikeout and giving up 16 hits.
