CHURUBUSCO — In late summer, Churubusco’s Town Council approved the hiring of an additional police officer to cut down on staffing costs and issues with filling the schedule.
Town Marshal Mike Engle offered the job to his part-time employees, and a local man was picked for the position.
Dustin Papenbrock, previously a deputy with the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, is the town’s newest officer.
Both Engle and council members were excited that Papenbrock applied, as he and his family have been a member of the community for a long time.
“We hoped he would apply,” Engle said. “His kids go to school here and it will be nice for him to work in Churubusco.”
Papenbrock had been a part-time officer in Churubusco for a couple years, Engle said.
