Buffalo Soldiers are so named by Cheyenne warriors who battled the 9th and 10th cavalry regiments during the Civil War, two of the most decorated units in U.S. history. During a battle in 1867, near Fort Hayes, Kan., they were dubbed “buffalo” soldiers because they fought with as much strength as a buffalo. These units were made up of black Americans who fought, with distinction, to preserve the Union. Throughout our history many of all colors and creeds have given their all to keep us free, the need still continues to this day. Be proud of who you are and be grateful for those who have gone before to give you all the freedoms we enjoy.
