CHEERS TO: Justin Gilbert and the Churubusco News for the new food column, BUSCO BITES. I love the background information that is written, the pictures to go along with the recipe, and the overall concept!!! I even love the name BUSCO BITES....it made me chuckle when I first saw it! It's become a feature that I seek out when the newspaper arrives in my mailbox every week. Also, CHEERS TO: Justin's niece, Mariah, for taking an interest in cooking during her summer vacation. I look forward to more interesting "tidbits" from Justin (and maybe even Mariah) in the coming weeks.

CHEERS TO: Shaniah Ramsey for her part in The Music Man at the Wagon Wheel Theater in Warsaw. AND WHATABOUT: Going to see her this week?

CHEERS AND THANKS TO: Our wonderful community for their donations of items for the New Era garage sale and telling us to keep the change! Thanks to Lisa Sorg for allowing the invasion of her home! The Dillers, Petries, Michelle Sade, Chloe and Brandon, thank you for ALL your help and for keeping me sane! The sale raised over $300.
-Cynthia Burch
CHEERS TO: The organizers, volunteers and everyone involved in making 2010 TD such a success and great fun.
-Ceil and Jim Parker
CHEERS TO: Churubusco Library Director Carol Scherer for donating nine boxes of unsold excess children’s books left over from the recent library book sale. Rather than allowing the books to be destroyed, these old but useable books will instead be delivered to underprivileged children in Appalachia through Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution, a not-for-profit women’s service organization. Thank you!
-Martha Barnhart,
State Regent,
Indiana DAR
AND CHEERS TO: Harold Norman for donating over one hundred children’s books from his personal collection to the children in Appalachia, also through the Indiana DAR. His dedication to education continues to shine through this generous gift. Thank you Harold!
-Martha Barnhart,
Churubusco
JEERS TO: The Whitley County Highway Department for placing stones in the potholes on 300 North. (Blacktop, would have been much better). It didn’t take long for the traffic to scatter the stones and many of them landed in our yard. These then have to be picked up before mowing can be done.
-Rosemary Berry

CHEERS TO: Connie Bair for donation and planting the flowers in the front of the library. They add to the beauty of the landscaping.
Thanks, Connie.

A BIG CHEERS TO: The committee who put together the fireworks show and to everyone who donated money and/or time. I would have to say that those were the best fireworks that I have ever seen and the grand finale took my breath away.
What a fantastic ending to a wonderful week for Turtle Days! Good Job!
-Liz
CHEERS TO: The Turtle Days board for a fun-filled week. We appreciate all you did to make this the best ever. You added great events but remembered to keep the traditional ones too. AND CHEERS FOR: Having recycling containers next to the trash. AND CHEERS TO: All the volunteers that made Kid’s Day at the park a huge success.
-Brenda Hughes
CHEERS AND A BIG THANKS TO: All of those that volunteered at the Turtle Races on Saturday. The Churubusco Chamber of Commerce sponsors this race each year and is grateful to the dedicated volunteers who step up each year and help us make this a fun- filled event. Without the help of these people we could not have pulled this off; Vince Simmers, Danyel Simmers, Jim Rollins, Brad Streseman, Viv Sade, Pat Flaherty, and Jerry McCoy. I would also like to thank The Husk’s for the use of their sound system and Fort Financial Credit Union for donating the grand prize award.
-Dee Dee McCoy,
Churubusco Chamber of Commerce
JEERS TO: Hoosier Blue Flame for removing a propane tank from my mother's farm with no notice to the landowners. Yes, I know you said you mailed two notices, but I'm not sure to what address you sent them because we never got them. Your stated reason was nonuse, but a tank that was filled last July was down to 15 percent, so somehow gas was getting used. And whoever you sent to remove the tank left the gas lines sticking straight up out of the ground. Good thing we found them before it rained again or we would have had water-filled gas lines. Maybe you should try certified mail or (heaven forbid) a phone call next time.

WHATABOUT: Donating new or gently used items for the New Era garage sale to be held at the elementary gym on Saturday, June 19. We are raising funds for a competition in Florida in the spring. Items not sold will be donated to charity. Call Cynthia Burch if you’re interested at 341-5469. We’re also looking for corporate sponsors!
-Cynthia Burch
WHATABOUT: Having a townwide “leave your trash and recycling containers out for 2-4 days or more” so that the households that already do that will know what it looks like? If you’re thinking that leaving containers out is no big deal, why do cities such as Ft. Wayne and Columbia City (and others) have ordinances that say containers are to be removed within 12 hours of collection and put at the curb no earlier than the evening before collection?
