The Churubusco Eagles defeated Wabash in the opening game of the Sectional Tournament. They would face Woodlan next.
There was a packed room at the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting. The issue was the sign ordinance. Everyone was encouraged to attend the Town Council meeting the following week to discuss the ordinance issue.
The Council discussed creating a new non-profit/tax exempt Park Board Corporation specifically for received grant monies for the park. Further discussion would take place after the Council met with the Park Board.
Jay and Shannon Merkel announced the birth of their daughter, Grace Elizabeth.
Ten Years Ago
Students at CMS and CHS were offered free hepatitis B immunizations if they chose and with their parents’ permission. The usual cost for the vaccinations was $100-$150. School nurses coordinated efforts with Whitley County Health Department to bring this to Churubusco students free of charge.
A photo of Guy McCoy, 102, holding his great-great-granddaughter was selected to be displayed along with 119 other photos from across Indiana in the Hoosier Millennium Photo Essay Contest.
Diane Bair, RN, Churubusco, was named Director of Whitley Memorial Hospital’s Medical Surgical Department.
Busco Bike-A-Thon riders raised $1,563 for St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Nuenthel celebrated their 50th anniversary by renewing their vows and an open house hosted by their children.

Three projects had been completed by the city’s water department that were some of the required projects necessary as determined by the Public Service Commission as part of the rate increase prerequisites.
The Indiana Department of Education and the Indiana Department of Commerce sponsored a statewide energy slogan contest. The energy slogan, “Energy: Measure the Treasure” submitted by Melissa Johnson, CMS was one of the five finalists.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Long celebrated their 50th anniversary with a reception for relatives and friends.
Earl and Mary Ellen Richards celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their children.
Kelvin and Lea Ann Ramsey announced the birth of their son, Joel Adam.
Troy and Brenda Fleetwood announced the birth of their daughter, Leah Elizabeth.
Chad and Pamela Hall announced the birth of their daughter, Hollie Marie.

The County’s Community Chest fund drive had reached 65.4 percent of the $25,022 goal.
Kathy Amber and Mike King were crowned Princess and Prince at the community Halloween festivities.
J. L. Cockrell of Churubusco was awarded first place in the eighth annual “Paintings by Indiana Artist.” His painting was titled “Steel Mill.”
David Ladd starred in “Raymie” at the Columbia Theater.
Churubusco Woodworking featured a new 20’ x 22’ two car garage, all labor and material included for $1,279.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Dennison announced the birth of their son, Ernest Eugene.
