Five Years Ago

Tyler Binkley of Ft. Wayne was named the new director of the Churubusco area Campus Life.

Calvary Chapel of Churubusco celebrated their silver anniversary. Reverend Steven Ardhuerumly founded the church and was still the pastor.

Tim Leazier was named first place winner in the 42nd annual Trophy Shoot.  He hit 47 out of 50 birds.

Gary and Jan Hooten celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Jason and Daphne Guise announced the birth of their daughter, Alexis Marie.

Will and Rosie Aspy announced the birth of their son, William Lucas.

Ten Years Ago

Two Churubusco businesses located in the Turtle Town Plaza, the Blue Lake Cafe and Country Cousins Bait and Tackle were burglarized.

Recent lab tests revealed the sanitary and storm sewers throughout Churubusco were badly cracked. There was a large discrepancy between the amount of water pumped from the tower and the amount of waste water returned for processing.

Phase I construction was scheduled to begin. Plans were for new sidewalks, curbs and miniature flowering trees along both sides of Main Street in the downtown area.

Golfers could now enjoy their sport all year at Eel River Golf Course, thanks to indoor golf simulators.

Mr. and Mrs. Luke Gross announced the birth of their daughter, Brien Nicole.

25 Years Ago

Kelli Walker was homecoming queen.

Larry Klein, son-in-law of Ross and Evelyn Clouse, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the Bell Center Bible Church in Burnettsville, Indiana.

Dan and Lowell Poyser were the winners at an outing and play-off of the Wednesday and Thursday Golf Leagues at Eel River Golf Course.

Churubusco Marching Pride and band director, Drake Omstead were awarded second place in the ISSMA Marching Contest.

50 Years Ago

The Churubusco Chamber of Commerce joined with other civic groups in the Fort Wayne area in opposing proposed rate increases by the General Telephone Company of Indiana.

Floyd’s Auto Sales in Churubusco was  having a three day Auto Show to introduce the all new design of the 1960 Fords.

A total of 110 drivers competed in the Green Center Tractor Pull.  Larry Herendeen was first place winner in the 5,000 lb. class.

The Churubusco High School junior class presented the light comedy, “The Magic Touch” at the high school gym.

“Anatomy of a Murder” starring James Stewart and Lee Remick was showing at the Columbia Theater.
