HUNTERTOWN -- Mary A. Wilson, 84, a resident of Huntertown and widow of Melvin Earl Wilson, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at her home following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Wilson was born on December 2, 1927 in Hartford, Alabama, a daughter of Hose and Florence (Cotton) Simmons, and spent her formative years in that area, where she graduated from high school. On October 23, 1943 she was married in Florida  to Melvin Earl Wilson, and moved to Huntertown following her marriage.
She had worked for various companies in the area, and had last worked at McDonald's in Churubusco and in Fort Wayne, retiring in 2003. Her great joy in life was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mr. Wilson preceded her in death on July 17, 2003.
She will be sadly missed by her sons, Don (Susan) Wilson of Columbia City and Tom Wilson of Huntertown; two brothers, Edward (Judy) Simmons and Jimmy Simmons, both of Dothen, Ala.; grandchildren, Donna (Eric Dorais) Wilson of Monroeville and Darren Wilson of South Whitley; and great-grandchildren, Drew Wireman, Derek Wireman, and Travis Wilson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Simmons and Jake Simmons; and by two sisters, Ruby Byrd and Hazel Massey.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Craig Alan Myers, pastor of Blue River Church of the Brethren, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be in the Huntertown Cemetery.
