FORT WAYNE -- Ralph L. Niman, 87, of Fort Wayne, and formerly Garrett, died at 1:09 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born April 18, 1925, in Churubusco, to Earl and Gertie (Deck) Niman and they preceded him in death. Ralph was a punch press operator at General Electric in Fort Wayne for 35 years, retiring in 1985. Ralph married Edna L. Henderson on March 16, 1946, in Waterloo, and she died May 13, 1989. He later married Elma Brown and she died September 22, 2009. Ralph was a World War II Army Veteran. He was a member of VFW Post 857 in Fort Wayne, and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Gertie Niman; two wives, Edna Niman and Elma Niman; a brother, Paul Niman; and his stepchildren, Gordon Roose, Jesse Roose Jr., and Curtis Roose, Laura Balliet and Midge Geeting.
Services will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at Thomas Funeral Home, Garrett, with Pastor Jay Fisher officiating. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Thomas Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, rural Churubusco, with military honors.
