News from the Commissioner

This Committee will present their findings in a written report to the Plan Commission at a monthly meeting to assist the Plan Commission in adopting a Wind Energy Ordinance regulating Future Wind Turbine projects.

Without the Ordinance the only regulation of the Turbines would be handled by the Board of Zoning Appeals and at this time the only restriction would be for height.

The Plan Commission will determine from all of their studies, information from Counties that have developed their own ordinances, and public feedback, the restrictions and regulations to be included within our Whitley County Ordinance.

That Ordinance will be presented to the Commissioners for approval or to be sent back to the Plan Commission to adopt changes.

We look forward to presenting the Ordinance before the end of the year.

With the start of school we remind all drivers to be aware of the school bus routes and be sure to obey the flashing red lights and the stop arm lights. Also remember this is the time of year when we might be getting some school delays due to fog. Let’s keep everyone safe. Thanks for your cooperation.

The County Commissioners September meeting will be held in South Whitley at the Public Library. The meeting will start at 1 p.m. Thanks to library staff for hosting us. Then on October 17th we will be meeting in Churubusco. Churubusco High School will host this meeting in the auditorium. The meeting will start at 10 a.m. High school students will be in attendance. Thanks to the school administration and teacher, Gary Smith, for working with us.

Tuesday, September 6th the Commissioners passed the new golf cart ordinance. The details of the ordinance may be picked up at the Sheriff’s Office in the Coordinator’s Office in the Government Center. As of September 6th, you must have your golf cart registered with the Sheriff, if you wish to drive it on County Roads.

We are trying to select a date and time when a member of the Sheriff Department can come to the Tri Lakes area and Blue Lake area to register your golf cart. The cost to register is a one time fee of $50.00. If you have any questions please feel free to call 248-3134 and talk to Amy.
