Benefit dinner will be held for Resler family

CHURUBUSCO — A benefit dinner will be hosted at the Green Center Community Building for the family of Joshua Resler, who passed away unexpectedly at age 28 in September.

Resler was a 10-year Green Township 4-H member and a volunteer firefighter. After the loss, the family is faced with unexpected financial burdens.

The dinner is 4-8 p.m. Oct. 14 and is a free-will donation. There will also be a silent/live auction. To donate items to the auction, contact Kellie and Tyler Phares at 502-0030 or Marcus and Julia Troyer at 693-2445.

Monetary donations can be made at Farmers & Merchants Bank in Churubusco, LaOtto or Kendallville to the Joshua K. Resler Memorial.

Event planned for 180th anniversary of Wesley Chapel

CHURUBUSCO — This year marks the 180th year since Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church was created, and the congregation has many things to celebrate in 2017.

In addition to honoring the 180th year, the congregation is celebrating having its mortgage paid off ahead of schedule, thanks to monetary donations and participation from the community in the church’s fundraisers.

A free chicken and noodle dinner, including mashed potatoes, corn, salad and a dessert will be 4-7 p.m. Oct. 21. The celebration continues Sunday, Oct. 22, at the church’s 10 a.m. worship service, where the congregation will burn the mortgage. Wesley Chapel UMC is located at 13733 Wesley Chapel Road, Churubusco. Pastor Larry Smith leads the church.

Main Street Chicago bus trip is Nov. 18

The Churubusco Main Street Committee will host a bus trip to Chicago Nov. 18. The bus will depart from PNC Bank’s parking lot at 7:30 a.m. Donuts, coffee and water will be served on the bus, which will take passengers directly to downtown Chicago in the Michigan Avenue area for shopping, sight-seeing and easy access to other transportation to museums.

The cost is $40 per person, and there will also be raffles and a 50/50 drawing on the ride. Tickets can be purchased at K&K Video and Books, 128 N. Main St., Churubusco.
