CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s New Era Show Choir has earned the opportunity to compete in a national show choir competition in Chicago next month.
The FAME Show Choir National Championship will be held April 22 at the Arie Crown Theater in downtown Chicago.
“New Era is thrilled to be selected and realize what an honor it is to have earned the opportunity to attend FAME Show Choir Nationals,” said Melissa Baughman, a coordinator for Churubusco’s show choirs.
This is the first time Churubusco has been selected to compete at FAME, which has been in operation for more than 20 years. FAME was created to develop a “true” national champion in show choir.
Qualifying events take place throughout the country, and the top scoring groups are invited to participate in the National Show Choir Finals in April. The winner will receive the prestigious Show Choir Cup.
The school is seeking donations to help the students fund the trip. A GoFundMe page has been created, looking to help raise the $16,000 needed for all of the choir members to participate.
“We want our students from Churubusco High School to experience the thrill of performing at the highest level with other high-caliber show choirs, while creating memories,” the GoFundMe page reads. “Your donation will be used to continue to build an amazing legacy of excellence at Churubusco High School.”
As of Monday, the GoFundMe page had raised about $160 toward the trip.
“New Era is a completely self-funded group, and in order to help us in fulfilling this immense accomplishment, we rely on donations from our proud alumni, family, individuals and companies,” the page reads. “Without the continued support of generous donors like you, we would not be where we are today. So, thank you in advance for your consideration, time and anticipated support in helping us achieve our dreams!”
