New Era choir advancing to state

New Era, Churubusco High School’s show choir, completed its regular season on Saturday by being named First Runner-Up at the Norwell Invitational. Fairfield was named Grand Champion and other participating show choirs included Columbia City, New Castle, Garrett, Southwestern, Perrysburg, Anderson Prep, Wawasee, Bellmont, Eastside and Central Noble. Churubusco’s Jacob Skinner was selected as Best Male Soloist in the show. He was also named Grand Champion in the separate solo competition. Cameron Crick was chosen as the group’s Outstanding Performer. New Era will be competing this Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in the ISSMA Small School State Show Choir Finals at Plainfield High School near Indianapolis, as they have qualified for the state contest for the third consecutive year. New Era, the reigning State Runner-Up, is one of only nine small schools in the state that will be vying for the State Champion title.

Churubusco’s junior high show choir, New Generation, concluded its competition season by garnering the First Runner-Up title of the Middle School Division at the Norwell Invitational. Dawson Meeks was selected as the group’s Outstanding Performer. Other middle school choirs that competed included Woodside/Summit, Perrysburg, Maple Creek, Memorial Park and Eastside.
