She was driven home by Taylor Amber later in the inning to give the host Eagles a 1-0 lead. Another run was added in the second and the Lady Eagles broke it open in the third inning. After a walk to Amber Brianne Burkhart smashed the ball into the right-center gap for a triple to plate Amber. Ashlie Shelton drove in a pair with a double and Alexis Bankson and Chandler Blake hit back-to-back doubles to add two more runs. After three innings the Lady Eagles led 8-0.
Churubusco added three more in the fourth to make it 11-2. Burkhart went the distance on the mound for the Lady Eagles. She struckout five Wildcat batters and made some good plays fielding as well.
“With Kasey and Savannah at the top of our order we should be set up to score a lot of runs,” commented Coach Wayne Gibson. “We are trying to do some different things to see what we can get out of our team. We have a long way to go but we are happy where we are at this early in the season.”
The Lady Eagles return to action next Tuesday at Fairfield, Wednesday at Manchester and Thursday at Lakewood Park.
