“The girls really showed up to play today,” commented Coach Ben Jagger.
Shannon Kuznar dropped the jitters she had from her first match against South Side, and played a very tough two-set match. She kept her composure, and really hung in there for a match-deciding win over Northrop’s Alex Popouski in the number three singles slot.
Both of the doubles teams also picked up wins. Seniors Alysa Holloway and Hannah Dodson overcame first set mistakes and took their match by scores of 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. The number two doubles team of Marla Martinez and Alison Shambaugh won their match in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
“Marla and Alison are starting to look like they could work together at the number two doubles spot,” stated Coach Jagger. “They were never really down and they played aggressive throughout the entire match.”
Kelli Klaehn played another close one at number one singles. She could have pulled it out if a couple of points would have gone her way, but she stayed in the match all the way to the end, eventually dropping it 4-6, 4-6.
JV had a few bright spots with Randi Murphy winning big at number one singles; 6-2. The other two Busco JV wins came from number two singles with Alecia Harmon beating Tamarah Welch 6-2, and number two doubles Shelby Bering and Felicia Young winning big at 6-0.
The Lady Eagles return to action Thursday at Fremont at 4:45 p.m. They will face county rival Columbia City at the Busco courts on Monday.
