CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s girls basketball team took a stellar, 74-24, win over Hamilton Dec. 20, snapping a five-game losing streak.
Despite tallying 74 total points on the game, the Lady Eagles only had one player score in double digits, freshman Mariah Hosted, with 10 points.
The rest of the points were spread among 11 other players — thanks to the direction of senior Callie Lemper, who tied a school record with 11 assists in the game.
The selfless senior only scored five points on her own, and also collected seven rebounds, second to Hosted with eight rebounds.
Churubusco took a 20-4 lead in the first quarter and extended its advantage to 38-8 at halftime. ’Busco outscored the Lady Marines 21-10 in the third quarter, and didn’t let up until the fourth, scoring 15 points to Hamilton’s 6, to make the final score 74-24.
Other scorers for the Lady Eagles include Isabelle Hille (9), Myah Bear (9), Brein Gross (6), Brooke Nondorf (6), Kenzi Tonkel (6), K.J. Johnson (6), Darian Manth (6), Molly Geiger (5), A. Fulkerson (4) and Alli Green (2).
The Lady Eagles recorded 54 total rebounds to Hamilton’s 22.
On Dec. 23, the last game before the Lady Eagles’ holiday break, Churubusco fell to Bluffton, 45-26.
After winning two games in a row, the Churubusco boys basketball team fell to Heritage Dec. 19, 58-39.
Jackson Paul led the Eagles with 12 points, followed by Dalston Duff with eight, Zane Burke with seven points, and Luke McClure and Brayton Bonar with six points apiece.
Gage Kelly led the team in rebounding with five, followed by Burke with four.
