The Eagles scored the first basket of the game on a basket by Holloway. The teams traded baskets and the game was tied at 8-8 with two minutes to go in the opening quarter. Lakeland shutdown the Lady Eagles in the final two minutes to hold a 12-8 lead after one quarter of play.
Amber hit a pair of free throws to trim the Laker lead to one at 15-14. But the Lakers went on a 5-0 run to give them a six point lead. The Lady Eagles didn’t give in as they put together a 5-2 run in the last two minutes of the second period. Haleigh Gross connected for two points, and then dished out two assists to Amber who hit a three-pointer and another bucket to pull the Eagles within one, 22-21, at the break.
In the third quarter Amber tied the game with a pair of free throws and then put the Lady Eagles up by two with a basket down low. But the Lakers weren’t finished as they ran off six points in a minute to post a four point lead at 30-26. Busco answered right back on a three by Gross to cut the lead to one. Alex Walker hit a jumper with 15 seconds remaining in the third period to give the Lady Eagles a 31-30 lead going into the final quarter.
Lakeland came out and hit two shots early in the quarter to take a three point lead with seven minutes remaining. Nichole Wormcastle hit for two to cut the lead to one. Churubusco went on a five minute scoring drought 0-7 from the floor, but the Lakers weren’t lighting up the nets either as they went 1-6 during the stretch. Amber connected for two with 46 seconds left, to trim the lead to two points. The Lakers hit two free throws to take home a 39-35 victory over the Eagles.

“I thought from start to finish this was our best game we have played this year,” commented Coach Jamie Perlich. “It was a tough one to lose especially for our seniors, Alysa and Taylor. We would have liked to get them a win on senior night.”
The Lady Eagles will enter Sectional play at Eastside this Friday night in the second game of the night facing either Fremont or Eastside.
