FORT WAYNE — James Richard Herendeen, 86, a resident of rural Fort Wayne, passed away on January 8, 2017 at Parkview Hospital.
He was born on June 24, 1930, a son of James Earl and Alberta (Foster) Herendeen.
On August 27, 1950, he was married in Albion to Dortha Rimmel.
Jim retired from Dana Corp, Fort Wayne, in 1985 after 30 years.
He attended Goodnews Baptist Church, Churubusco. He loved to fish, camp and be outside.
James is survived by his wife, Dortha Herendeen; sons Richard (Cathy) Herendeen and Clay (Gerry) Herendeen; sisters Mildred Black, Beverly (Don) Felger, Shirly (Curt) Link and Reta (John) Radke; granddaughters Amy (Jason) Kill, Heather (Brian) Patten and Rachealle Ray; a step-granddaughter; a step-grandson; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by parents James Herendeen and Alberta Marshall; and a brother, Frank Herendeen.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco, with Pastor Tim Grable officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Noble County.
Calling will be today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Thursday.
