MARION – Churubusco’s Rachel Jacquay won the pole vault event at last week’s regional at Indiana Wesleyan.

She jumped 10 feet, 9 inches. The sophomore out jumped her second-place opponent by six inches.

“Rachel is the most dedicated female weightlifter we have,” said head coach Zach Dock. “She has an outstanding work ethic.”

State finals take place June 3 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex at Indiana University. Jacquay will compete in pole vault at 3 p.m.

“The surfaces are fast, and the performances are big,” said Dock. “We hope to stay relaxed and do what we do, don’t over think stuff, and not focus what everyone else is doing.”

Churubusco’s 3,200-meter relay team of Maggie Burita, Stacia Fester, Alayna Fulkerson and Kaitlynne Gaerte placed in 12th at regionals. Burita also placed sixth in pole vault.
