CHURUBUSCO — The Smith-Green Community Schools Board of Trustees will have an open position starting in March. Carey Jacquay currently holds the position and announced Tuesday that she will be stepping down. In her resignation letter, Jacquay said she needed to step down due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
“With the personal issue I have, I feel I cannot devote the time or energy to the position that I feel is required,” she wrote in her resignation letter. “Please know that I learned a great deal while being a member of the school board and as my personal situation changes, I would absolutely consider serving again in the future. I have the utmost respect for Mr. (Galen) Mast, the board and each of its members and wish only continued success to the school system.”
The board is looking for candidates to fill the spot, which is an at-large position including Districts 1 and 2, meaning the candidate must reside in Smith Township, rather than Green Township.
The district released the following statement in regards to her replacement: “The Smith-Green Community Schools Board of School Trustees is seeking qualified and interested candidates from the community to fill a vacancy on the Board of School Trustees. All applicants are to submit a letter of interest and resume or alternate document outlining their qualifications. Information should be submitted by March 3 to Smith-Green Community Schools, Attn: Dean Geiger — Board Vacancy, 222 W. Tulley St., Churubusco, 46783.”
The selected candidate will take office in March.
