Jack Parker

Mr. Parker graduated from Albion High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.

Jack operated his own business over 35 years, Parker Glove and Supply, and later owned Parker Outlet Center, specializing in Carhartt clothing, in Avilla and Shipshewana.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville. He was also a member of the Albion American Legion Post 246, Kendallville Elks Lodge where he received the Elk of the Year award for 2008 to 2009, and the Knights of Columbus.

Jack enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He liked playing cards, gardening, fishing, traveling, and was a horse man at heart. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, as they meant the world to him.

He was born December 1, 1934, in Wolf Lake to John Dwight and Doris (Wiley) Parker. In 1978, he married G. Eileen (Chapman) Polakovic in Las Vegas.

Surviving are his wife, G. Eileen Parker of Kendallville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kelly and Kenneth Miller of Garrett and Amy Gulbranson of Fort Wayne; a stepson, Garry and Sara Polakovic of LaOtto and a stepdaughter, Jeannie Polakovic of Winamac; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Alton Parker of Albion and John and Esther Parker of Woodburn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Parker.

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, December 10, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kendallville, with Father James Stoyle officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Military graveside services will be presented by the Albion American Legion Post 246.

Casketbearers will be Errik Polakovic, Noah Polakovic, Aaron Lee, Clancy Smith, Tom Burke, and Arthur Charles.

Calling is Thursday, December 9, 2010, from 2 to 6 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.

An Elks Lodge service will be conducted at 6 p.m. with a prayer vigil to follow.
