CHURUBUSCO — While many high school basketball teams played in holiday tournaments and had practices throughout holiday break, Churubusco’s boys and girls basketball players got to take a break from the court and spend time with their families.
With no games scheduled during the school’s winter break, both the girls and boys teams were able to take a week off from practice, which the coaches said is an opportunity for the players to give their bodies a rest before coming back in 2017 to finish out the last half of the season.
“Holiday tournaments are great, but it is awesome for our players to be able to have family time and not have to focus on basketball,” said Paul Sade, ’Busco athletic director. “They get to be with family and relax, and that’s what Christmas is all about. Now they get to come back refreshed.”
Sade said he hasn’t ruled out holiday tournaments in the future, and is leaving the decision up to the coaches.
“I won’t second guess them,” Sade said.
