During the service of music and readings, the sanctuary is transformed with Christmas decorations illuminated by candlelight and accented spotlighting. Readings provide the history of Christmas traditions while vocalists and other musicians help create an atmosphere of joy and thanksgiving. The program includes a live nativity and culminates with the birth of the baby Jesus.
This year’s performances of the “Hanging of the Greens.” will be on Saturday, December 11 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, December 12 at 2 p.m. at the church. Sanctuary doors will open 30 minutes before each performance. A reception in the Fellowship Hall will follow each performance.
Canned goods, paper products and other non-perishables food items for the food pantry will be collected on both days. There will also be a freewill offering taken at the end of each performance.
Those who have attended in the past will be pleasantly surprised by the changes to this year’s program. Those attending “The Festival of The Hanging of the Greens,” for the first time will be amazed and delighted with this unique way of telling the Christmas story and its history.
The church is located at 750 North Main Street, Churubusco.
