HUNTERTOWN —Joe Leazier won the Carrolll Sectional title at 145-pounds Saturday, and the team finished seventh overall.

Eastside came in fourth place with 144.5 points.

For Churubusco, Leazier was the lone Eagle to make a final at Carroll. The senior came out and took care of business and won all three of his matches by fall, including a pin on Bishop Dwenger’s Michael Garrett with 30 seconds left in the first period.

“He had a really nice day,” Churubusco head coach Sam Riesen said. “We figured about just over three minutes in three matches, so he went and took care of business. We were coming off the second loss of the season at conference, so we kind of wanted to focus in one week at a time.

“We knew we couldn’t be a state qualifier this week. Let’s come out as sectional champs, next week were are going to be regional champs and we’ll go from there.”

Also advancing for the Eagles are Dominic Heath (126), Marcus Debolt (195) and Reese Wicker (220).

All that advanced will compete at regional at Carroll on Saturday at 9 a.m.
