CHURUBUSCO — Garold E. “Gene” Boggs, age 91, of Churubusco, passed away on September 28, 2017, at his home.
Born in Green Township on February 1, 1926, to Harmon and Clara (Owen) Boggs, he spent his formative years on the family farm in Green Township and graduated from Albion High School in 1944.
He was married on July 4, 1947, to Mellie Gaff in Merriam. She preceded him in death on May 21, 1993. Later he married Luraine Y. (Combs) McNeal and she survives.
Gene retired in 1986 from Dana Corporation, Fort Wayne, after 40 years of service.
He was a member of Merriam Christian Chapel and later Wallen Baptist Church, where he spent many hours preparing and teaching Sunday school classes.
He was a nationally recognized woodcarver and he loved camping, fishing and spending time with his family.
Gene is survived by his wife of 23 years, Luraine McNeal of Churubusco; a son, Kerry (Barbara) Boggs of Churubusco; two daughters, Sherry (Larry) Halt of Edwards, Missouri, and Corinne (Ron) Kline of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Ray Boggs of Churubusco and Lee (Ann) Boggs of Albion; three sisters, Beverly (Steven) Carter of Churubusco, Connie (Jerry) Frymier of Albion and Sharon (Dean) Zolman of Columbia City; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he is preceded in death by a sister, Lois McWilliams.
Services were Tuesday at Wallen Baptist Church. Burial followed in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
