The Whitley County Cares Fund is a non-permanent fund at the Foundation which means that gifts that are made to the Fund will be expended based upon immediate need. Almost $46,000 was raised locally in 2008, and all but $2,000 have been expended.
“The generosity of local residents allowed us to distribute money where the needs are truly greatest,” said director of the foundation September McConnell.
McConnell used eyeglasses as an example. “While replacing a pair of broken eyeglasses for a child might not be a monumental cost for some people, for other families that type of expense was simply impossible.
Over the past eleven months, the Whitley County Cares Fund has funded agencies which provide energy assistance, it helped stock the shelves of local food banks, and provided help to organizations who offered clothing and housing to people in need.
Gifts to the Whitley County Cares Fund are fully tax-deductible. Contributions may be sent to: WCCF, 400 N. Whitley Street, Columbia City, IN 46725, note Whitley Co. Cares on the memo line.
