Eagles draw Eastside for sectional opener

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s boys basketball team will have two games against Eastside in four days.

First, the Eagles travel to Eastside for their last regular-season game on Friday. Then, on Tuesday, Churubusco faces Eastside in the opening round of sectional play at South Adams.

As of press time, Eastside had a record of 10-11, and 0-1 against sectional opponents, losing 50-47 to sectional opponent Adams Central.

Churubusco (9-11), is 1-1 against sectional opponents, beating South Adams 64-58 and losing to Adams Central, 55-54.

Adams Central has the best record in the sectional at 10-10 — going 4-1 against sectional opponents. Fort Wayne Canterbury is 9-11 overall with a 2-0 record against sectional opponents, beating Adams Central and South Adams.

Bluffton is 8-13 overall and 1-2 against sectional opponents. South Adams is 5-15 overall and 1-4 against sectional opponents.

Teams in the South Adams sectional have a combined record of 51-71, which ranks 54th out of the state’s 64 sectionals.

The winner of the Churubusco/South Adams game will face Canterbury in the semifinal Friday.

On the other side of the bracket, Bluffton faces Adams Central Tuesday at 6 p.m., then the winner plays South Adams in the semifinal.

The championship game is next Saturday at 7:30 p.m at South Adams.
