Donald W. Greve Sr.

Mr. Greve was born in Fort Wayne on September 20, 1926, a son of Edward B. and Nora A. [Sutton] Greve, and spent his formative years there.  As a young man he served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and was married on November 2, 1946 to Susie Irene Ackerman.  He had lived at his home at Blue Lake since 1954.

Employed as a truck driver for Old Fort Supply in Fort Wayne, he retired from there in 1985 after 25 years.

He was a member of the Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco and the Churubusco Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Turtle Post 3846.  He was instrumental in starting the annual Blue Lake fireworks, and in his leisure time enjoyed fishing and Churubusco Eagle and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football.

Mrs. Greve preceded him in death on February 11, 2007.

The surviving relatives include his children, Jimmy Powers of New York City, Don (Rosie) Greve of Churubusco, and Carol Collingsworth and Wanda Jett, both of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Chaplain Tom Novy, officiating.  A U. S. Navy military presentation immediately followed the service.

Interment was in the Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
