Five Years Ago

Old man winter dumped eight and a half inches of snow on Churubusco with more expected.

Churubusco native Guy McCoy passed away at the age of 107.

Benny Sery and his dad Mike were top sellers in the fund raiser at Churubusco Child Care. Gold Canyon candles were sold to assist with improvements to the playground. Emma Anna and Tina Bulmahn were second place sellers.

Phase four of Thresher Ridge Subdivision development was beginning. The new section would have an entrance off 550 North.

Council approved a four percent pay increase to Town workers.

Ten Years Ago

Employees of McDonald’s restaurant were robbed at gun point. Three employees were cleaning up and preparing to close when two males wearing ski masks entered the building. The robbers, carrying a semi-automatic handgun and a baseball bat began waving the weapons and screaming at the employees for the money. Two of the employees were tied up and put in the cooler. Then the third one was taken into the cooler. One employee had called for a ride home. When the person came, he found the door ajar, went in and found the employees and called the police. The case was still being investigated.

Town employees received a five percent pay increase and an additional half day holiday, giving them nine and a half holidays.

CES Soundmasters singing group performed at Glenbrook Square and then traveled to Columbia City to perform at Miller’s Merry Manor and The Oaks.

25 Years Ago

Tri-County Publishing office was broken into and robbed. An undetermined amount of cash was taken from the safe as well as hand held cassette recorders. Desk drawers were ransacked and dumped on the floor.

There were delays in the opening of the toboggan run at Pokagon State Park caused by the design of the new track and refrigeration system. Everything else was open and officials hoped to have the problems corrected very soon.

The motor vehicle commissioner announced the extension of vehicle registration from six months to ten months.

Fred and Bernice Guiff celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with an open house.

Ed and Kate Gebhart celebrated their silver wedding anniversary with a party hosted by their children.

Mr. and Mrs. Doug Teague announced the birth of their son, Spencer Joseph.
